Apprenticeship

Local 1091 apprentices can take advantage of training and networking opportunities that open the door to a career in construction.

When the busiest part of the construction season is nearing an end, it is a good time to be thinking about registering and taking some training classes.

All Apprentices must complete 288 training hours and 4000 work hours in three (3) years from their Initiation date to upgrade to Journey worker.  The 3 mandatory classes required for Apprentices to complete the program are Safety Week, General Construction, and Orientation.  The Safety Week and Orientation will be offered in Duluth on December 07—11, 2020 with the Orientation being held on Thursday evening (the 10th).  Both Safety Week and General Construction are 40 Hour classes.  In addition to each Apprentice will receive 4 hours of training for completing the Orientation and 2 hours of training for each Union meeting they attend.  When attending these meeting be sure to indicate on the register when signing in that you are an Apprentice to ensure that you will receive credit for you attendance.

If you are considering taking the upgrade exam at any time, you must have completed a minimum of 160 actual training hours.  The Safety Week, General Construction and Orientation are mandatory & highly recommended to have completed before taking this exam.

Please note:  The Apprenticeship Coordinator is Gary Larsen.  He took over the Apprenticeship program upon Dean Mills promotion to Training Director.  His experience and knowledge will be a great asset to our program.
